💡 Our Technical Review in summary
Summary
- Microsoft is extending Data Loss Prevention (DLP) capabilities within Microsoft Purview to include support for Microsoft Fabric warehouses.
- Fabric warehouses are SQL-based analytical databases integrated with OneLake, used for reporting and business intelligence.
- This update allows existing DLP policies to automatically detect and protect sensitive information stored within these structured data environments, unifying security across the Fabric ecosystem.
- The rollout is scheduled to begin in early February 2026 and reach completion by late February 2026.
Impact
- Automatic Policy Extension: Existing DLP policies currently scoped to “Fabric and Power BI” will automatically begin scanning and evaluating data within Fabric warehouses without manual intervention.
- Billing Changes: Administrators will see an increase in the “protected asset count” on Microsoft Purview pay-as-you-go invoices, as warehouse objects will now be factored into the billing telemetry.
- Administrative Visibility: DLP alerts and reports in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal will now include hits and sensitive data matches found within Fabric warehouse SQL tables.
- Zero User Disruption: This change occurs at the service level; there is no expected impact on end-user workflows or data accessibility during the rollout.
- Default Activation: The feature will be enabled by default for all tenants as it becomes available.
Action Required
- Review Existing Policies: IT Admins should review current DLP policies scoped to Fabric/Power BI to ensure the rules and sensitive information types (SITs) are appropriate for SQL-based warehouse data.
- Budgetary Preparation: Notify billing and financial stakeholders that the expansion of protected assets may result in a moderate increase in Purview consumption costs.
- Stakeholder Communication: Inform compliance and data privacy officers that sensitive data within Fabric warehouses is now being monitored under the organization’s DLP framework.
- Documentation: Update internal data governance documentation to reflect that Fabric warehouses are now included in the automated data protection scope.

[Introduction]
We’re expanding Data Loss Prevention (DLP) for Microsoft Fabric to include support for Fabric warehouses. DLP for Fabric is already generally available and helps organizations detect and protect sensitive data stored in structured data within OneLake. With this update, existing DLP policies can now extend protection to warehouse data, strengthening your organization’s overall data security and compliance posture.
[When this will happen]
General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in early February 2026 and is expected to complete by late February 2026.
[How this affects your organization]
Who is affected:
