Microsoft Message ID: MC1218415 – 2026-01-16 | Create custom templates for immersive events in Microsoft Teams

Microsoft 365 Update

💡 Our Technical Review in summary

#### Summary
Microsoft is introducing new capabilities to Microsoft Teams (Roadmap ID 542794) that allow event organizers to create, save, and share custom templates for immersive experiences. Accessible via the Teams Meet app, these “Immersive Collections” enable users to build reusable 3D environments and collaborate by adding co-owners or members to specific template sets. This update aims to standardize the setup process for 3D meetings and large-scale immersive events.

#### Impact

  • User Productivity: Event creators can save significant time by reusing previous environmental configurations rather than building immersive events from scratch.
  • Collaboration: The ability to add co-owners and members to collections allows teams to manage a shared library of event environments.
  • Platform Availability: Full functionality (creation and management) is available on Teams for Windows and Mac desktops. Immersive collections can also be created via Teams for the web.
  • Deployment Schedule: Rollout begins mid-February 2026 and is expected to reach General Availability by early May 2026.
  • Admin Effort: This feature is enabled by default. No administrative configuration or backend setup is required for the rollout.

#### Action Required

  • Internal Awareness: Notify event organizers, internal communications teams, and “power users” who utilize Microsoft Mesh or immersive 3D spaces in Teams about the upcoming template functionality.
  • Training Materials: Update internal documentation for the Teams Meet app to include the new “Events” and “Manage templates” workflows.
  • Monitor Documentation: Microsoft has indicated they will update the “Plan for immersive events” documentation closer to the rollout date; admins should review these updates for any late-breaking compliance or governance details.
  • Review Permissions: While no admin toggle exists, ensure that users who need to create these events have the appropriate licenses for immersive experiences in Microsoft Teams.
