💡 Our Technical Review in summary
Summary
- Microsoft is introducing granular administrative permissions for Viva Glint to provide more specific control over access to Advanced Configuration, Nudges, General Settings, and Viva Integrations.
- The highest-level administrative role is being renamed to “Viva Glint Service Admin.”
- Security is being tightened by restricting the assignment of the Viva Glint Service Admin role exclusively to the Microsoft 365 Admin Center (MAC).
- The rollout is scheduled to begin and complete on March 9, 2026.
Impact
- Administrative Control: Only M365 Global Admins and Viva Glint Tenant Admins will have the authority to assign the “Viva Glint Service Admin” role. This can no longer be done within the Viva Glint application interface.
- Role Access: All users designated as Viva Glint Service Admins will automatically receive access to the “Advanced Configuration” area moving forward.
- Granularity: Admins can now delegate specific tasks (like managing Nudges or Integrations) without granting full administrative rights, adhering to the principle of least privilege.
- Operational Stability: Existing admin policies remain intact; however, the method of managing these roles shifts to a more centralized security model in the Microsoft Admin Center.
Action Required
- Audit Existing Roles: Review current Viva Glint administrative assignments to determine which users require the new granular permissions versus the full Service Admin role.
- Update Provisioning Workflows: Adjust internal IT processes to ensure that Service Admin requests are routed to M365 Global Admins or Viva Glint Tenant Admins for fulfillment via the Microsoft Admin Center.
- Documentation Update: Update internal technical documentation and helpdesk knowledge base articles to reflect the new role name (“Viva Glint Service Admin”) and the new assignment location.
- Training: Brief your Viva Glint stakeholders on the new granular permission areas (Advanced Configuration, Nudges, General Settings, and Viva Integrations) so they can request appropriate access levels.
