Microsoft 365 Update

💡 Our Technical Review in summary

Summary

  • Microsoft is enhancing the “Memory” feature in Microsoft 365 Copilot to provide more personalized and contextual responses.
  • The update allows Copilot to utilize a user’s chat history to better understand intent and deliver tailored information.
  • A redesigned user interface for “Memory” settings will be introduced, giving users improved visibility and control over their saved interactions.

Impact

  • User Experience: Interactions with Copilot will become more context-aware, reducing the need for users to repeat background information from previous sessions.
  • Data Processing: This update changes how existing customer data (chat history) is processed to generate AI responses. While it improves personalization, it involves a deeper integration of historical chat data into the active reasoning model.
  • Control and Governance: Existing tenant-level and user-level Memory settings will be honored. If Memory is currently disabled for your organization, it will remain disabled.
  • Transparency: Users will gain access to a refreshed settings page where they can manage what Copilot remembers, providing a self-service way to clear or toggle personalization.
  • Timeline: Public Preview begins mid-November 2025, with General Availability scheduled for early January 2026.

Action Required

  • Update Internal Documentation: Review and update internal training materials or FAQs to reflect the new Memory settings interface and the personalization capabilities.
  • User Communication: Notify users of the change, specifically highlighting that Copilot will now remember context from previous chats to improve accuracy, and inform them of their ability to manage this data through the settings menu.
  • Policy Review: Verify that your organization’s current stance on Copilot Memory aligns with your data retention and privacy policies, as the scope of data processed for response generation is expanding.
  • Technical Readiness: No direct admin configuration is required to enable this if Memory is already active, but admins should familiarize themselves with the Microsoft Graph resources (enhancedPersonalizationSetting) for future programmatic management.
