💡 Our Technical Review in summary
- Microsoft is introducing a new feature that allows users to easily share Microsoft Teams apps and agents directly from their profile or the Teams side panel.
- This update is applicable to Microsoft Teams for Windows, Mac, and the web.
- A key technical distinction is that a Microsoft 365 Copilot license is not required to share agents; sharing capability is governed by existing user access permissions.
- The rollout is scheduled for Targeted Release in early November 2025, with General Availability (Worldwide) expected to be completed by early December 2025.
#### Impact
- User Experience: Users will see a new “Share” option when hovering over an app or agent icon within a 1:1 chat. Additionally, apps can be shared via a right-click menu from the “Apps” (+ icon) side panel.
- Accessibility: The feature simplifies the discovery and distribution of internal agents and third-party apps among team members.
- Default Configuration: This feature will be enabled by default for all users who have permission to access the specific apps or agents.
- Licensing: There is no additional cost or specific license tier (like Copilot) required to utilize the sharing mechanism for agents, provided the user already has access to those agents.
#### Action Required
- Admin Action: No direct administrative action is required to enable this feature as it is “On by default.”
- Policy Review: IT Admins should review current App Permission Policies to ensure that only authorized apps and agents are available for users to share within the organization.
- Documentation: Update internal training materials or help desk “how-to” guides to reflect the new sharing shortcuts in the Teams interface.
- User Communication: Notify power users and stakeholders about the improved sharing capabilities to help streamline workflow and app adoption.
