While the source files remained intact, the integration between Excel’s web access components and other platforms—specifically Power BI and SharePoint Online—was disrupted.
2. Impact
Users may have encountered difficulties viewing or accessing Excel data in the following scenarios:
- Power BI: Data within imported Excel workbooks in Power BI workspaces may have been invisible.
- SharePoint Online: Excel content hosted on SharePoint sites via web parts may have appeared blank or “greyed out.”
- General: Any Microsoft 365 service utilizing Excel web access may have failed to display data on the web.
3. Status
Current Status: Service Restored
Resolution: Microsoft has successfully deployed a fix to address the compatibility bug and confirmed the restoration of service through internal testing.

The impact scenario for Power BI was that some users may have been unable to view data when they opened imported Excel workbooks in Power BI workspaces. To avoid this issue, users could’ve seen the data when they utilized workbooks in Excel or Excel for the web.
The impact scenario for SharePoint Online was that some users may have been unable to access or view Excel content on SharePoint Online sites because the content was blank and greyed out. To avoid this issue, users could’ve opened the Excel file directly without using web parts.
Final status: We’ve successfully deployed our fix to address this issue and confirmed in our testing environment that this issue is resolved.
